The popularity of Alsatian wines has grown in America over the past several years. Today, they are as popular as ever. Because of the cooler climate of the region, most of the wines that are produced there are made from white grapes, specifically Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris. The first two, of course, may sound familiar to lovers of German wines. But unlike their German counterparts, French Alsatian winemakers make dry wines, fermenting all the sugars in the crushed grapes and producing beautifully dry white wines that are as delicious as any in the world.
