1982 Chateaux Palmer

Tasted from a magnum. This one didn't excite anyone because of our enormous expectations. The bottle is not corked, but the wine is simple, and while clearly good Bordeaux, certainly not stellar. I would not guess '82 blind. More like a '94. There's some nice, light plummy fruit, medium body, and a simple frame. I'd like to try this wine again from a different bottle. Retail $300 in single bottle format.

In theory, yes. There oxygen and cork interact with a smaller % of the wine in the bottle, so it should age more slowly. In practice, I'm not sure. This particular wine was tired. Magnums are always fun to open, and almost always have more value than the price of 2 750s.

Mike - does a "magnum" change the flavor structure or change the shelf life of such a vintage or any vintage for the matter??
