1998 Turley Lodi Zinfandel Dogtown Vineyard
Written By: Michael Zimberg on Friday, May 9, 2008
Zin can age! Aromas of honeysuckle, sappy maple, and spice. Hides its 16.5% alcohol behind its candied bing cherry and dark chocolate. Mostly comes together on the finish but sometimes the syrup is out of balance. Feeling adventurous, we ate chocolate and grapefruit gelato from capogiro. They make the best ice cream, period.

I'd be worried about the 16.5% too. Glad to hear it doesn't dominate.

Michael Zimberg has intuition when it comes to wine. Somehow, some way, he is able to spot the best deals and the best food and wine pairings. Mikey's wife, Jill, attributes it to a naturally well-defined sense of taste and smell, combined with a healthy dose of experience. Whatever it is, his reviews shouldn't be missed.
