1999 Conterno Fantino Sori Ginestra

Jill and I drank this at the last night at San Domenico in NY. After 20 years on Central Park South, they will be moving to a new, as yet undisclosed location.

At first, the wine locks and plays with the priscuitto. There's game in the huge and complex finish.


I'm pictured with Piero, the excellent wine director.
Also there's notes of fresh truffles and saddle leather. Its so clear, precise and long. Nothing under $100 per bottle can touch this. In this case the price is certainly in proportion to the quality. Then washes the veal medallions with pancetta with a floral perfumed outstanding full body, perfect balance and excellent finish. As good as it is it will improve for very many years. Just a beauty. Jill says funky. Like damp forest dirt. Remarkable. Not available at retail. More recent vintages are about $100.
