2002 Vincent Dancer Pommard Les Perrieres
Written By: Michael Zimberg on Monday, March 31, 2008
At first, this was light and tight, showing mostly tart acids, and barely ripe cranberries. Then improvement continues over a 2 hour period. Now its aromas are pretty, floral, elegant and clean. After the shocking quality of the many '05s I have been drinking, the flavor isn't as ripe or friendly, but it has many interesting, and compelling elements. I get raspberries and strawberries, from the early summer. The overall impression continues to be astringent however, with a green streak of almost, ripe light fruits, like a cantaloupe that is a little too hard. It doesn't transcend its burgundy designation (it is a village wine). I can't find this at retail. Other vintages seem to be around $50.

Michael Zimberg has intuition when it comes to wine. Somehow, some way, he is able to spot the best deals and the best food and wine pairings. Mikey's wife, Jill, attributes it to a naturally well-defined sense of taste and smell, combined with a healthy dose of experience. Whatever it is, his reviews shouldn't be missed.
