2004 Bodega Catena Zapata - Catena Alta Malbec
Written By: Michael Zimberg on Monday, November 3, 2008
I hadn't ever had an Argentinian malbec of this caliber. Deep, dark and lush, and brimming with lovely dark plums, ripe blackberries and oak. The palate is long and smooth, with rich tannins. Even though it has such density, there's a graceful charming feminine warmth. Given the sheer weight, it will improve in the cellar for 5-10 years. This was a gift, thanks Paul! I am going to shop for at least 1 case for my cellar. Retail $40.

Michael Zimberg has intuition when it comes to wine. Somehow, some way, he is able to spot the best deals and the best food and wine pairings. Mikey's wife, Jill, attributes it to a naturally well-defined sense of taste and smell, combined with a healthy dose of experience. Whatever it is, his reviews shouldn't be missed.
