2004 De Toren Fusion V
Written By: Michael Zimberg on Wednesday, April 23, 2008
This is a delicious Bordeaux style blend from South Africa. Lovely red ruby. Funky nose with some mushroom (a little out of place in a wine of this style but it works). There's pine and mint. Long and smooth with outstanding balance. Lovely, full mouth feel. Old world in style. Very smooth tannins. Well done. Nice sense of place too. I drank this with ostrich carpaccio at Xai Xai in New York City. The pairing worked very well. Try it with a red meat. Retail, $37.

Michael Zimberg has intuition when it comes to wine. Somehow, some way, he is able to spot the best deals and the best food and wine pairings. Mikey's wife, Jill, attributes it to a naturally well-defined sense of taste and smell, combined with a healthy dose of experience. Whatever it is, his reviews shouldn't be missed.
