2004 Kistler Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast
Written By: Michael Zimberg on Wednesday, June 11, 2008
I've never been disappointed by a Kistler Pinot Noir. Find some, buy it, and invite me to have a glass. This is their lowest end pinot noir, and it is by all counts delicious. It has a beautiful dark ruby color, and brooding earthy nose. There's a compelling powerful candied cherry flavor (but not too sweet) that gives away its California origin, but many other more old world style elements, like minerals, earth and cola. The finish is huge, powerful and somewhat tannic, telling me that this will be able to age for 10+ years. I am a sucker for these wines. They are easy to drink, complete, while maintaining a sense of place and complexity. The smile is genuine. Retail $100.

Michael Zimberg has intuition when it comes to wine. Somehow, some way, he is able to spot the best deals and the best food and wine pairings. Mikey's wife, Jill, attributes it to a naturally well-defined sense of taste and smell, combined with a healthy dose of experience. Whatever it is, his reviews shouldn't be missed.

Mickey, totally agree with you on this one. Do you know of any Pinot's that are similar in style/weight? Really love this one and have found it hard to find a comparable one from another vintner.
