2004 Le Cupole Rosso Toscana
Written By: Michael Zimberg on Friday, May 30, 2008
Lovely label/ bottle. Lighter style color that looks more like beaujolais. Nice nose of roses, truffle and mushrooms. Flavors of plums, earth and mostly smooth tannins. However, lacks concentration/ finish of a wine in this price range. Still, a well styled package. Solid wine, but not a superstar.
With grilled chicken, rice pilaf and broccoli. Would do better paired with pasta and red sauce.

Michael Zimberg has intuition when it comes to wine. Somehow, some way, he is able to spot the best deals and the best food and wine pairings. Mikey's wife, Jill, attributes it to a naturally well-defined sense of taste and smell, combined with a healthy dose of experience. Whatever it is, his reviews shouldn't be missed.

The 2004 is a total fruit bomb and nice to drink but the tannins are almost non-existent. The winemaker changes the blend every year. The 2004 is Merlot dominated, which is rare because it is typically made from declassified Cabernet Franc from the Tenuta di Trinoro. Try the 2005 and see the difference.
