2005 Chave Hermitage

From first site I am in love. This is a perfect example of syrah. It is a very large wine with a candied fennel nose, massive constantly changing palate with boisterous candied blackberries, subtle perfume, and a wealth of exotic spices. Following the wine's evolution over the course of an hour is a pleasure. It is a masterpiece. A value at any price and a joy to drink. If you are lucky enough to own this wine, I'd suggest cellaring for at least 10 years. We drank it at Cookshop in NYC. I was eating the wonderful pork loin, and the pairing worked well. Retail $300.
