Wine and the City: The Wedding Edition, Vol. 1
Written By: Romany Reagan on Wednesday, February 6, 2008
Going to the chapel and we're gonna get married.
My best friend from childhood is getting married in three weeks. For this joyous, flabbergasting, life-altering extravaganza I am journeying back to my hometown, San Diego. This will be a welcome break from the city (during it's coldest month too--ha HA!). It's quite an amazing thing when someone who's been such an important part of your...read more

Wine and the City: The Wedding Edition, Vol. 2 - Finding Wine for the Wedding
Written By: Romany Reagan on Wednesday, February 27, 2008
A fairy tell wedding in San Diego requires very specific wine choices.
Two of my California friends, Laureene Storton and Josh Buck, finally tied the knot this past weekend at a beautiful ceremony written by our mutual friend Gabi Lawson. The marvelous, nearly-rained-out extravaganza took place at The Cove in La Jolla, after which we headed to the reception at Old Venice. A simply stunning Italian restaurant...read more

The 2008 South Beach Wine and Food Festival
Written By: Randy Torban on Wednesday, February 27, 2008
Never Forget the Afternoons You Can't Remember.
As the voice came over the loud speaker to let us know the 2008 South Beach Wine and Food Festival had only 10 minutes left, my mind reeled at the thought of waiting an entire year before being able to attend the 2009 festival. It was that good. By "it" I can honestly say all of it, because I was lucky enough to take part in at least 75% of the...read more

Syrah In My Closet: Start the Presses
Written By: Michael Keba on Wednesday, February 20, 2008
Wine 101 - Pressing wine is a precise and crucial element of the wine making process. It's also a tough task for a single college winemaker to handle.
It took about a week and a half for the fermentation to come to a halt. My vat of purple pulp stopped bubbling carbon dioxide, signaling the time to proceed with pressing. Unfortunately, I was suffering a severe time crunch when this happened. My infant wine had to be neglected until I found some spare time the next weekend to nurture it...read more

A Valentine's Day You'll Actually Love
Written By: Romany Reagan on Wednesday, February 13, 2008
Finding the sweet spot between Greeting-Card Yuck and being a Negative Nancy.
Shnookums. Fuzzybug. Lovemuffin -- don't you just LOVE Valentine's Day? Seems like everyone is either being annoying or being annoyed on this sticky sweetest of holidays. You can always be tragically hip and shun the whole debacle all together, but being a scrooge is the lazyman's pathway to cool. There are a lot of ways to actually have a...read more
Italian Inspiration
Written By: Dylan York on Tuesday, February 5, 2008
Besides rally racing, deep sea fishing, and amazing night life...apparently Sardinia has wine too.
Recently I had the pleasure of finding Di Vino, this great little wine bar on the island with a great selection of Italian wines. I was in the mood for something that I could decant and drink over the next hour or so. Jon Jo, the bartender came back and proudly presented me with his last bottle of 2004 Santadi Rocco Rubia Carignano di Sulcis...read more

Unique Reds of Sicily
Written By: Dylan York on Tuesday, February 26, 2008
Have you ever tried a red varietal that grows on the side of a volcano?
At last we reach the red wines of Sicily. I must say that Sicily does quite a bit for an island its size. According to my research, Sicily has more vineyards than any other region in Italy. That would explain why I had so many notes. Most commonly in the DOC regions you will find the grape varietals Nero d'Avola (also known as Calabrese),...read more

Sardinia: White Wines

Great White Wines of Sardinia and their Spanish relatives
After getting a little inspiration from my new favorite wine bar here on the island, I have decided to start my studies with Italy. After drinking two outstanding wines from Sardinia (Sardegna), 2004 Santadi Rocca Rubia Riserva and 2006 Argiolas "Is Argiolas" Vermintino I decided to start with the islands and work my way inland. I think the...read more

A Little Rant and A lot of Rave
Written By: Dylan York on Thursday, February 28, 2008
The pace of the island may be slow, but opportunity comes fast.
It's been two months since I arrived in Grenada so I thought I'd recap some of the things that have gone on. Typically, I spend most of my days on the balcony with a stack of books and my laptop studying wine regions, taking notes and tasting wines. I never had this much time to devote to studying wine so I am taking full advantage of that...read more
