2000 Graham's Vintage Port

Burning, bursting and ripe aromas of figs, wild blueberry, and alcohol. Way too young, but magnificent. Perfectly ripe, excessive persistence, Then a portion is a tannic mess, then changes quickly to a finish, branded onto the palate, lasting more than 1 minute. I would like to see where this is in another 10 years. Will live to 100+ years. A...read more

2003 Argyle Nuthouse Pinot Noir

Lighter style, burgundian ruby. Anise, roasted meats, baker's chocolate and mushroom funk on the nose. Then a wash of candied sour cherry and earth on the palate. Acids and tannins a-plenty. Has a lot of charm, but a bit too many high notes. Lacking some bass. I'd like to see more velvet, like Domaines Serene. Well made. Mikey's Grade

2004 Le Cupole Rosso Toscana

Lovely label/ bottle. Lighter style color that looks more like beaujolais. Nice nose of roses, truffle and mushrooms. Flavors of plums, earth and mostly smooth tannins. However, lacks concentration/ finish of a wine in this price range. Still, a well styled package. Solid wine, but not a superstar. With grilled chicken, rice pilaf and...read more

1999 Beaux Frerers Point Noir The Beaux Frerers Vineyard

Outstanding dark ruby. Smells like spring flowers, and dark cherry. Amazing wild summer fruit, including raspberries and small wild strawberries glide across the palate in this smooth offering. Very concentrated, with well integrated tannins, this could age a few more years. For a vineyard part owned by Parker, it is not in the "Parkerized"...read more

2003 Vincent Girardin Corton Vielles Vignes Grand Cru

Huge sappy nose. Animal and dirty fruits with excellent but unresolved tannins. Next sip brings bright cherry and other dark red fruits. Needs time, but excellent value. With steamed shrimp and broccoli. Mikey's Grade

2005 Martinelli Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa

Kapow! Bombastic, huge, and cloying. Incredible waxy dark spicy cherry , anise, and sweet tannins coat the palate. Enormous finish. Better than the '04. As good as any zin, this one is really special. Nothing timid, but each sip picks up new nuance. Hides its almost 17% alocohol fairly well. With cajun catfish. Mikey's Grade

2004 Pine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Ruterford

With a rib-eye steak, mac and cheese and cauliflower. Pretty blueberry and tart raspberries. Smooth, but thin. Pretty flavors but lacks the finish of a big California Cab. Very feminine for a cab. I'd hope for more at $48. Mikey's Grade

2003 Quilceda Creek Red Wine

This is a second wine? Jill says end of summer fruits, blueberries bursting, falling off the branch. Fat raspberries and strawberries. Michael says this could pass for a first growth Bordeaux. We got this retail for $30. Great deal at that price, but sells for much more now. Mikey's Grade

2005 Anderson Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

Excellent smooth cabernet that is almost cult like in its fruit extraction. The difference between this and the really expensive cults (Harlan, Shafer, Colgin, Screaming Eagle) is the quality of the tannins. These are a little gritty but smooth and long. There's tell tale green pepper and fresh ripe plummy fruit. And it can (and probably...read more

2006 Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc

Made in a dense new world style. There's a peachy mineral nose. This is plump, lush, hearty, tasty wine that would go with almost any food. Medium to full bodied, satin smooth and oily. Fun label too. I'm digging it. I get some green pair and very long finish. Then as it warms in the glass, some well integrated oak appears along with...read more
