Her Last Night as a Single Woman

The Bachelorette Party

This past weekend, my best friend, Gena continued on her path to marriage. For the bride-to-be, a few of my friends and I organized a wild night of fun, also known as a bachelorette party. To most of the girls, this is new territory, as Gena is out first friend to tie the knot. From near and far, the group came together for this special and significant event in honor of the future wifey. From grade school to the college years, all the girls came out to show their love for Gena.

We embarked on our girls’ night out Friday from Gena’s house in a 2008 white Hummer limo, fit for the princess. Our clan of 12 scooted into the luxury SUV and toasted the night with a couple of bottles of bubbly. We headed south for a pre-party full of bachelorette craziness, including gag gifts, tequila shots, and of course, lap dances. The customs of a bachelorette party are very simple: embarrass the bride-to-be at all costs necessary, make sure she has more than a few too many drinks and go to great heights to do anything to make her happy.

The crew headed to our friend Elana’s pad near the Beach for bites, cocktails and, of course the always-predictable stripper. We took a few shots to get things moving as the exotic dancer, Manny the Latin Lover, slapped his 30-minute mix onto the speakers. To the mortification of Gena and the satisfaction of the rest of the group, the stripper and his inappropriate behavior had girls scrambling to the porch, the pantry and even the bathroom, as not to become the next victim. A few of us gave in to the raunch fest, knowing we would be sought if not surrendered. Although the stripper wrapped up his dance party in the time it took his mix tape to run out, he stuck around and it was hard to kick him out the door. After all, it was a girls’ night.

The evening progressed when we hopped into the limo and headed out to a joint on Miami Beach’s Washington Avenue called DEK23. We secured VIP bottle service in honor of Gena, to avoid the never-ending bouncer battle. Gena was presented with her Bachelorette To Do List, compliments of yours truly, filled with wonderfully embarrassing tasks for her to perform for the remainder of the night. Lucky for me, Gena’s the determined type who did not take the list lightly. Before we even entered the club, she had check marks halfway down the list. Once in the doors, we were greeted with more champagne, vodka and rum for the ladies to sip while watching Gena continue her list of fun follies (including finding a guy who looked like her ex and begging her to stay single, to kissing a bald man’s head with red lipstick).

The evening moved into the early morning hours, as we danced and celebrated until our bottles ran dry. We then moved on to a local pub for a few beers where we met up with a few familiar faces in a more relaxed setting without the blaring music, spotlights and thick haze of party fog. We chilled for a while and then decided to call it in at 4:30 a.m., knowing all good nights must come to an end. As we arrived back home, we made sure to pop some Advil before passing out. All in all, the stress of the planning was totally worth seeing Gena get down for one last night as a hot, single twenty-something, with the countdown at six weeks until the big day.

Cheers to you, my love...
