Napa Valley

Region of the Week: March 3, 2008

Napa Valley, like Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Chianti, is equally recognizable to both wine connoisseurs and neophytes alike. And it's a reputation that is well-deserved: Few places in the world are as perfectly suited to the cultivation of cabernet sauvignon as this Valley north of San Francisco. But don't think of the Valley as a monolith: It's many sub-appellations each excel not only with different grape varieties, but also with different styles of the same ones. For cabernet, keep your eyes open for names like Oakville and Rutherford: They are two of Napa Valley's many "grand crus."

Napa is an extremely diverse region, and I personally enjoy a great variety of wines that come out of there.

woo, Napa Cab! That's gotta be the hottest wine of the region. Can anyone suggest otherwise?
