New Zealand Wines | Prices, Types & Reviews
Written By: Brian Freedman on Monday, July 31, 2006 New Zealand is as far away and exotic as it gets, but its wines provide some of the same excitement and subtlety as the best of the Old World. Because of its generally sunny and temperate climate, New Zealand is the ideal place for the growth of such grape varieties as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. These wines tend to be subtle and flavorful and, when made by the best producers, exquisitely balanced and lovely to drink. Look for producers like Cloudy Bay, Babich, and Brancott Estate, but keep an open mind when it comes to other, less-well-known ones: With the prices still reasonable and the general quality of the wine so high, you really can't go wrong with the wines of New Zealand.
