Ribera del Duero Wines | Prices, Types & Reviews
Written By: Brian Freedman on Monday, July 31, 2006 Ribera del Duero is one of those regions that is world-renowned for a single wine, the Vega Sicilia. This is a powerful red that is made from Tempranillo (known as Tinto del Pais in the local parlance), Garnacha, and the Bordeaux varietals Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Vega Sicilia is aged in oak and commands high prices similar to the ones connoisseurs pay for the so-called Cult Wines of California. If you don’t feel like parting with the $100+ that Vega Sicilia commands, then you’re likely to also find some excellent Tempranillo varietal wines at very fair prices from Ribera del Duero.
