The wines of Sicily are experiencing a real comeback in the United States. They have always been known for their drinkability, and the huge amount of wine produced there has always been notable (Sicily produces more wine than anywhere else in Italy), but it is only recently that varietal wines from this island have come into their own. This change in perception has been led by the wonderfully tasty Nero d'Avola grape variety, whose richness off flavor has catapulted the entire Sicilian industry's reputation to higher levels than ever before in this country.
