Pinot Blanc Wines | Prices, Types & Reviews

Pinot Blanc is a white grape variety that produces relatively full-bodied, rich white wines. It was originally grown in France's Burgundy region, and even today it is legally permitted to be used in white wines that say Bourgogne Blanc, or White Burgundy, on the label. However, the famous white wines of Burgundy are made of Chardonnay, so the...read more

Syrah In My Closet: Start the Presses

Wine 101 - Pressing wine is a precise and crucial element of the wine making process. It's also a tough task for a single college winemaker to handle.

It took about a week and a half for the fermentation to come to a halt. My vat of purple pulp stopped bubbling carbon dioxide, signaling the time to proceed with pressing. Unfortunately, I was suffering a severe time crunch when this happened. My infant wine had to be neglected until I found some spare time the next weekend to nurture it...read more

2001 Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico

This is a massive, dark, inky wine. Delicious aromas of dark, dripping fruits, dark chocolate and something like tar. Then tons of tannins. My mouth has fur all over. Huge finish, but mostly hidden fruit. There's glimpses of boysenberry, and dirty forest. It is way too young, but very powerful and ageable. It should all come together...read more

2001 Mas Igneus Priorat Costers

Deep rich purple. This smells interesting. There's a tar and dripping ripe fruit. Huge, dense and chocolaty, this is a very nice taste of wine. Full, thick and powerful, this has a ripe long finish, with smooth tannins. At this price, I am expecting a wine to show many sides, and so far I just get one. Already delicious, this should...read more

The Rhone region extends both north and south of the Rhone River. In the north, the famous Syrah-based red wines of Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, and Hermitage are made. To the south of the Rhône River, the more affordable red wines of Côtes du Rhône, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, and Tavel are produced. The southern Rhône blends are made from a...read more

Italian Inspiration

Besides rally racing, deep sea fishing, and amazing night life...apparently Sardinia has wine too.

Recently I had the pleasure of finding Di Vino, this great little wine bar on the island with a great selection of Italian wines. I was in the mood for something that I could decant and drink over the next hour or so. Jon Jo, the bartender came back and proudly presented me with his last bottle of 2004 Santadi Rocco Rubia Carignano di Sulcis...read more

2005 Grivot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots

Yet another killer 2005 burgundy. This is serious, dark, and takes more than an hour to start to come out of its shell. Then it is just delicious, with a field of dripping, ripe black fruits, and warm, damp dirt. It has a massive, complex palate and a huge finish, with lots of tannins. I have only 1 more bottle in my cellar and will certainly...read more
