2003 Bethel Heights Vineyard Pinot Noir Southeast Block Reserve

Nice dark ruby color. Then muted across the rest of the experience. Some pinot aromas, including fruit (spicy black cherries), and damp earth but some other strange things, like cardboard and menthol. It has many elements of a great wine. There's good concentration, and a long finish, yet I am bothered by a lack of clarity of the fruit. It is sold, but not exceptional. At this price, there's better.
This wine is an interesting counter point to yesterday's lesson. Robert Parker rated this wine outstanding, and Tanzer liked it too. The goal is to find wine that you like, and learn to enjoy it more by thinking about it, comparing it to other wine, and reading what others have to say about it. Retail $32.
