Few wines get connoisseurs more excited than Barbaresco. These gorgeous red wines from the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy are made from the Nebbiolo grape variety, arguably Italy's most noble. They tend to be powerful and elegant, with a typically silky texture and a subtle richness that is unrivaled. Whether they are enjoyed on the own or with a well-prepared meal, they rarely fail to astound and delight.
Barbarescos tend to be a bit on the expensive side, though few wines are as justified as they are when it comes to price. The most famous and well-regarded is probably the Gaja (pronounces guy-ah) Barbaresco, though Giacosa, too, is much loved by connoisseurs. Indeed, no matter which one you try, it is undeniable that Barbaresco is a gorgeous wine, and well worth the price, no matter how much you pay.
