Borsao Tinto 2005, Wine of the Week

Written By: Brian Freedman on Tue, Jul 17th 2007

July 17, 2007

This wine is exactly the sort of thing you should keep half a case of in your cellar or on your wine rack: It’s wonderfully fruit-forward but not dumbed-down like so many other value-priced wines, varietally accurate (meaning it actually tastes like the grenache that comprises 80% of the blend), and food-friendly. This last part is key for this time of year: Break out a bottle or two at your next barbecue and get ready to play the role of  hero: Your guests will never guess what you paid for this one. The prices of some Spanish wine may be getting a bit out of control these days, but this bottle remains, thankfully, a holdout. It’s also proof that really enjoyable wine doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. It’s $7.99 a bottle, though it tastes more like a $15 red.
