Coonawarra Wines | Prices, Types & Reviews

Written By: Brian Freedman on Wed, Jan 24th 2007

Such are the temptations of producing wines and growing grapes in a "hot" country like Australia that many growers and producers seem to want to make as much money as possible as quickly as possible. Coonawarra embodies this sad aspect of globalized wine, and as a result, much of the wine produced here is made in large quantities, the better to maximize profits. But that doesn't mean that the wine is bad: Far from it. In fact, the truth is that the wines of Coonawarra can be every bit as rich and exciting as the best wines Australia has to offer. And just as long as you don't purchase a moderately-priced bottle of wine from this region with the expectation that it will be an idiosyncratic little bottle of gold, you won't be disappointed.
