E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rose 2005

This wine is like summertime in the glass, which is vaguely depressing as it's now October and the sun sets at approximately noon these days. But the nose is all cherry tart and ripe summer melon but without all the sweetness, and the palate is as well-balanced and richly flavored as so many wines of this stellar vintage are. The finish, though, is what really struck me: The syrah makes its presence known there, and the almost meaty flavor that lingers in the mouth makes this rose so much more appropriate for these cooler days than most such pink wines are.
