Gavi is an excellent white wine from the Piedmont region in northwestern Italy. This wine, made from the Cortese grape variety, tends to be slightly perfumed and full of pleasant fruit. So whether you drink it alone or with a light meal, it is reliably enjoyable. As with most wines from the Piedmont, there are a number of producers who make excellent ones. For Gavi, the most respected are Principessa Perlanta and Villa Sparina, though there are others that produce delicious wine, too. And don't let the price fool you: There are some excellent bottles available for less than $20. Indeed, when it comes to Gavi, you don't have to spend a lot of money to be greatly rewarded.
