Most wine-producing countries have one or two styles of wine that seem to exemplify the character of their national wine culture. For France, it's Bordeaux and Burgundy. For Italy, it's Chianti. And nothing says American wine more emphatically than Cabernet Sauvignon from California's Napa Valley. In the case of New Zealand, this national wine character is most clearly manifested in its Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, a wine of luscious tropical fruit, subtle acidity, and impeccable balance.
