Merchant Spotlight: DrinkUpNY

Written By: Anonymous on Mon, Aug 18th 2008

In the world of wine mercantile, things can feel a bit crowded. State stores, online stores, and wine clubs are all competing for the same business. In this field, it pays to make the extra effort to stand out in one way or another. DrinkUpNY looks to shipping for that extra boost. DrinkUpNY is a New York based company (as you might have guessed), led by Kamal Mukherjee. Kamal brought 20 years of IT experience into the wine and spirit world, and immediately saw an opening where other retailers were lagging. That opening was online retail and shipping. Although comparatively new to the merchant scene, DrinkUpNY has made a splash with its shipping policies. In the vein of Amazon and other large distributors, DrinkUpNY offers free shipping on any order over $99.99. This is still an unheard of practice in the wine world. Furthermore, they offer worldwide shipping, choosing to navigate sometimes complex liquor shipping laws. When asked why they are taking these extra steps, Kamal replied - "Our goal is to provide hard-to-find, boutique products to the consumer at an affordable price. One need not have to spend hundreds of dollars to enjoy a nice drink." Of course... if they do spend hundreds of dollars with Kamal... they are bound to get free shipping. DrinkUpNY also offers a large array of liquors in conjunction with wine; the goal being to encompass as many wine and spirit lovers as possible. As stated by Kamal, "we are looking for any consumer who enjoys fine wine and spirits. We are willing to try new products as they become available." Absinthe... sake... tequila... it's all fair game. "We are continuously adding new, cool products in our portfolio... and our costumer service is exceptional!" Through Kamal's extensive IT experience, and utilizing a fresh look on an old business, DrinkUpNY hopes to lead the way as wine shipping laws allow for more and more business.
