Like most of the wines of Spain, those produced in Priorat range from the eminently affordable to the bank-breaking. Priorat is located in the hot climate near the Mediterranean, and the temperatures combined with the lack of rainfall produce grapes that are high in sugar. This, of course, leads to powerful wines whose alcohol content tend to be on the high side. But amazingly enough, the wines of Priorat, generally based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha, are not overbearing. They maintain a wonderful balance between full-bodied assertiveness and rustic charm. They are, in a word, delicious.
