Rias Baixas is virtually synonymous with Albarino, the famous white grape variety of this region. This association of the grape with the region is logical: more than 90% of the grapes planted here are Albarino, whose thick skin is particularly well-suited to this rainy part of Spain. The wines tend to be aromatic and high in alcohol, and though they are a bit more expensive than many Spanish wines, they are absolutely worth it: They are exciting, powerful wines that age well and develop beautifully over time.
