Tuscany Wines | Prices, Types & Reviews

Written By: Brian Freedman on Mon, Jul 31st 2006

If there is one place in the world that is famous for its food and wine, it's Tuscany. In this part of Italy, the climate, the geography, and the winemaking know-how come together to form what is arguably the perfect environment for the production of world-class wines. And amazingly, they are not necessarily all expensive. Some great bargains are to be found with wines from Chianti and Umbria: These are the kinds of wines that go with everything from pasta to steak to pizza. In fact, Tuscany is home to one of the most famous dessert wines in the world: Vin Santo, or "wine of the saints," a sweet and delicious dessert wine that is so good that, after you have one sip, it will make all other actual desserts seem somehow unnecessary.
