Veneto Wines | Prices, Types & Reviews

Written By: Brian Freedman on Wed, Jan 24th 2007

This region in northeast Italy produces some of the most beloved and well-known wines in the world. From red wine favorite Valpolicella (and its noble, deep-flavored cousin, Amarone) to the white Soave (which runs the gamut from lifeless and mildly depressing to truly inspiring in the case of some Soave Classicos), this region should be familiar to anyone who knows anything about Italian wines - even if the name of it doesn't necessarily ring a bell. Also, as world-wide popularity of Champagne increases, the famous fizz of the Veneto, Prosecco, grows in popularity alongside its more famous, and more expensive, brother in bubbles. Prosecco typically tastes of biscuits, lemon cream, and perhaps a hint of almonds, and its light body and easy - drinking style make it one of the best wines one can drink in the warm months of spring and summer. And its price is generally less than half that of Champagne.
