Welcome to Wine

Written By: Matthew Apsokardu on Thu, Feb 26th 2009

Wine is more popular in America now than it ever has been before. Sure, we’ve always been a beer culture—how else to explain those sexy, rock-and-roll beer commercials for flavorless, vaguely depressing brews?—but the joys of the vine are finally starting to catch on here.

This has been the result of a number of factors, including the many health benefits, the growing acceptance that real men do drink wine, and the fact that it just tastes so good either alone or paired with a meal.

But wine can also be confusing: Each year, there are more than 65,000 labels produced…and not all of them are the familiar cabernet, merlot, and chardonnay. (May we interest you, for example, in a nice glass of xinomavro from northern Greece? How about an albariño from Spain’s Galicia region?) And beyond all the confusion about the juice itself, there’s that whole pesky issue of how to properly store, serve, buy, and enjoy your glass or three of wine each day.

Which is where we come in. Consider ClassicWines.com you one-stop shop for all things wine-related: Information, articles, videos, wine recommendations, and, yes, more wines than anywhere else on the Internet available for purchase. And to make your journey through wine even more interesting—and so that you can see how well you’ve been picking up the little tidbits of information on ClassicWines before you move on the to other sections—we’ll even include a little take-at-home quiz at the end of each one.

All this and so much more on ClassicWines.com? Sounds worthy of a glass of something nice to celebrate with. Just don’t drink too much: There’s an entire world of information right here. All you have to do is click ahead.
