Barbera is one of the most widely planted varietals in all of Italy, but it is in the five DOC's in and around the Piedmont region that Barbera reaches its fullest potential. Barbera d'Asti and Barbera d'Alba are varietal wines that tend to exhibit a low level of tannin, a dark ruby color, and high acidity. Barbera can be made in a wide range of styles, from everyday table wine to rich and expensive gems that benefit from aging.
