Canterbury Wines | Prices, Types, & Reviews

As a southern hemisphere country, the further south you go in New Zealand, the cooler the climate gets. Therefore, the Canterbury region, about halfway down the South Island, is a rather cooler place than, say, Auckland, which is on the northern part of the North Island. As a result, the most popular grape varieties are those classics of Burgundy, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which do famously well in cooler parts of the world. And while Canterbury isn't necessarily the most well-known of New Zealand's wine regions, it is certainly worth seeking out its wines, as they are as elegant and delicious as any from this country.
