The Champagne region is northeast of Paris, and produces what is probably the single most famous wine in the world. In fact, the name Champagne has become synonymous with sparkling wine. The truth, however, is that not all sparkling wine is Champagne. Indeed, fewer than one out of 12 bottles of sparkling wine produced each year is Champagne.
There are many different kinds of Champagne, from blanc de blancs, which is made only with Chardonnay, to blanc de noirs, which is made with only with the red grapes Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
