Stellenbosch Wines | Prices, Types, & Reviews

This is arguably the best wine-producing region in South Africa. Located east of Cape Town, the history of wine-production in this region extends back to the 17th century. And in all the time since then, the Stellenbosch wine community has developed into a major player in the world scene. Its best (and best-known) wines are made from the classic French varieties Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the local hybrid known as Pinotage, a grape variety whose fans—and detractors—are rather vociferous. Also look out for excellent Port-style dessert wines from Stellenbosch.
