Topic: Weekly Wine Showdown

4th of July is a great holiday for experimenting with new food and wine pairings. A hot and flaming grill, produces some amazing flavors - and that's why for this barbecue season we have decided to compare two Cote du Rhones - Jaboulet-Vercherre Cotes du Rhone Chassy 2005 vs. Paul Jaboulet Aine Cotes du Rhone Parallele 45 2005.

Opinions welcome! I'll take this challenge next fourth of July myself as I missed this video until now. Look forward to seeing both sides of these wines.

Is this paid for by Paul Jaboulet? The Chassy, made in an elegant Burgundian style by a Cote d'Or merchant, may lack a bit of length and concentration (what do you expect at this price) but it's certainly not unbalanced or lacking in integration. Certainly its flavor profile is drier, more in the spice (cinnamon, black pepper, hint of cayenne) and chocolate (milk with cocoa) category than the obvious, rather boring fruit forward quality of the Parallele 45. This talking head pushes the false notion that all Grenache based wines are cut in the same cloth: maybe he should stick to New World reds. Ignore him and retake this challenge for yourself.
