Battle of the Big Reds - California Cabernet Showdown

Posted by The ClassicWines.com Team | Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Topic: California Cabernet Sauvignon Showdown

When it comes to wine in California, Cabernet Sauvignon is the equivalent of the 2007 New England Patriots (nevermind that one loss.) California Cab enjoys a global reputation for excellence, and in today's episode, Brian Freedman puts them to the taste. Placed in a food and wine pairing context, two Cabs compete for the prize of showdown champion. Which will come out on top? Wines tasted today are the Joel Gott 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Annabella 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection.

I've had the Joel Gott - not too shabby. Didn't set my world on fire, but certainly enjoyable.

I think you may have taken it a little easy on these wines. I get the impression that they were very simplistic - a bit consumer driven. I could be wrong, but I think perhaps the tie was because neither was that astounding!
