Pol Roger was the favourite champagne of Sir Winston Churchill. They produced champagne in pint bottles, solely for Churchills consumption. After Churchills death in 1965, Pol Roger placed a black border around the labels of Brut NV shipped to the United Kingdom. In 1984, they introduced their finest wine, the Pinot Noir-dominant Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill. Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill replaced the Pol Roger P.R. Reserve Speciale at the top of the range. Reserve Speciale was a 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir blend from 100% rated grand cru vineyards. Forward aromas of baked apple, almond and toast with a whiff of Sherry. Fresh tarte tatin, ginger and vanilla flavors laced with lively acidity. Lengthy, youthful close shows great aging potential.
