R Wines 2007 Gewurztraminer (tudo radog)
Description:
"This wine ships to: AK, CA, CO, HI, IA, ID, IL, MN, MO, ND, NM, NY, NV, OR, TX, VA, WA, WI, WV and WY. Tasting Notes:Nose: Monterey county fruit has produced a wine offering nosefuls of classic Gewurztraminer character - floral aromas, stone fruits, and a spiciness that lingers in memory as a mix between wet stone and ginger.Palate: This wine is nearly dry, with enough fruity goodness to qualify as plain yummy. The bitter back palate is a classic marker of this varietal, and one that begs for food.Suggested Pairings: A great wine for all the foods of the season - its crisp acidity helps it stand up to a wide range of dishes. Though ham is the classic pairing, avoid triteness by pairing this wine with most any Asian food or medium to medium-heavy dish featuring sweet-and-savory seasonings or sauces. Look for recipes without hot spices, but with good aromatics - ginger, clove, cardamom, cinnamon, etc. Tagines are ideal, as are many cheeses (including fondue!).Like the rest of Dan Tudor's Radog wines, this is a great value. It's a fun wine that doesn't take itself too seriously - ideal for those times when the focus is on friends and fun, not serious wine analysis. (well, maybe just a little wine analysis!)Made from 36 year-old vines growing in gravelly soil, this Monterey vineyard is very cool and windy - perfect for aromatic Gewurztraminer. The Tudor's ferment the free-run juice with no skin contact to eliminate any bitterness on the finish that can be off-putting in Gewurz, with its lower fruit profile than Riesling. This allowed the winemaker to highlight this wine's natural lychee, grapefruit and honeysuckle characteristics. To assist with this goal, it was fermented in stainless steel (classic Alsatian style) to emphasize its fruit and minerals."
