This is a beautiful Federspiel Gruner Veltliner from Johann Donabaum, meaning it is slightly less intense than his Smaragd wines from the same vineyard. It has the classic Gruner Veltliner notes that you look for: minerality, wet slate, subtle stone fruits and a white pepper finish, all packaged in a lighter-bodied, very easy drinking wine. The Spitz vineyard sits at the base of two mountains and has gathered layers of sediment over the centuries: add vines that are between 30-45 years old, roots dug down very deep, and youll find a stunning, complex minerality in the wine as well.
