"Notes on the Dain Syrah "Smart Set" White Hawk Vineyard Santa Barbara 2006 : WINEMAKER NOTES: Hard not to love this vineyard and being biased, I love this wine, which is 50% whole cluster, with 1% viogner and 11 months in barrel. Beef blood and olives and ripe black and blue berries are present with fresh acidity and minerality. Grill a steak if you are inclined. A few notes about 2006 in general as I see it. A very very good year over all, some wines are darker in color with more of a blue/black fruit profile. Bright, fresh natural acidity and lower alcohol levels are the rule, similar to 2005 with darker, lush fruit. These wines will be enjoyable on release but will really thrive on a few years in the cellar. Given the depth of fruit of many wines in 2006, a year or two of rest would be good, but it wont hurt a thing to ignore my advice just decant.
